Frequently asked questions

When can I join Online Kapa Haka?
Our 2026 is full. If you’d like to join next year, please ensure you are on our waitlist- click here to join.

How do the lessons work?
Think of the lessons in two types; kapa haka and te reo.

The kapa haka lessons break down the learning with piece by piece teaching of the words, pronunciation, translation, tune and actions for each waiata. These are then put together in the full performance videos students can follow along to, mirror us doing the actions and sing along with the lyrics. We also provide PDFs, chords sheets and backing tracks.

The newly completed Te Reo Progressions offer a comprehensive year-long age specific lesson progressions at three levels; 0-2, 3-4 and 5-6. These completely cover the Te Reo Māori Achievement Objectives in a way that integrates the knowledge with kapa haka, games, language learning, tikanga, Te Ao Māori and puts it in context to make sense for each student in their own life.

How much planning or PD time is required to run these lessons?
Zero! We’ve designed these so you can easily find what you need for your age group, press play, teach along with the videos and learn alongside your students with confidence.

Can I get a subscription just for my kapa haka group?
Our resource is designed for a full school roll out. We work with schools who want to create a strong foundation and sense of longevity throughout the entire school. As such, our packages are designed with multiple logins built in to allow for this.

We already have a Kapa Haka and Te Reo specialist, should we subscribe?
The resources let any teacher teach kapa haka and te reo confidently with no prep. If your kura have te reo teachers and kapa haka tutors this can significantly boost the school wide up take and support the expertise already in your school.

It means you’re in a stronger position to subscribe. The resource will allow your kura to go from, say, one block a week to a more integrated approach that embeds the learning in day to day school life throughout all classrooms.

How much should I budget to join in 2026?
2026 packages are still being finalised and will be released in February 2026. Schools who successfully secure a spot with us invest between $2,500 – $5,000 per year depending on their school size and selected package.

What does a subscription include?
Full access to the complete library of kapa haka lessons, te reo progressions and a number of logins so multiple teachers have access.

HEar from some of our schools!

“I LOVE the new Lesson Progressions. They are SO good. To have someone like Justin to trust our children are getting rich content in Kapa Haka and Te Reo is such a gift to us who want to give our best but are never quite sure if we are cutting it. Thank you for the hard mahi. It is so appreciated.”

"Online Kapahaka is a rawe/excellent resource. We have used it to support tamariki during lockdown, as part of our class programmes and for whole school and team events."

"Online Kapahaka has provided a learning environment in my classroom that celebrates Māori culture and what it means to be Māori and a New Zealander. Not only has it helped our tamariki recognise that, as Māori, we add value to New Zealand’s unique identity; It has also helped with teaching physical stamina, fitness and coordination and has provided cognitive stimulation due to the demands of recitation, repetition and memorisation. I also believe it has given them a sense of solidarity from being in a collective, as part of a team."

"We love it! I loved that we could go at our own pace so when we got busy we could log on the next day and work on the lessons they left off on. The fact that you are giving us something we couldn't get to before, is such a great thing. Being able to have our kids learn their culture from here is something I cherish. Mahalo, fa'afetai tele lava to you and your team! Such great teachers!"

"This has been a tremendous resource! It is easy to use and always engaging. Not only does this enable the students to connect with cultural knowledge but it aligns with the curriculum learning in the classroom. My students love every session we've had. I can find them practising in their own time. Ka Rawe!"

Online Kapa Haka is an awesome resource for teachers. I have been using in my CRT sessions with children from years 0-8. I appreciate how Justin has customised the new Lesson Progressions for each age group. As well as the content, the presenters' styles are adjusted for each of the four age levels. The lessons are really plug and play, making planning so easy. It's great to have a combination of speaking and singing activities so the children are not sitting for too long. I would definitely recommend this to schools who want an affordable way to include kapa haka and te reo into their learning.
